A typical post-World War II house in West Vancouver is transformed by exploiting the potential of the existing balcony. It is extended horizontally to create more deck space and a new car port below, and vertically to provide access from the kitchen to the backyard pool. The balcony, now a contemporary element, is the central belt that ties the house together.
